Katelyn Johnson, Executive Director
Katelyn Johnson is a graduate of North Park University, with over a decade of outreach experience including leadership development, civic engagement and community organizing. Katelyn was named Executive Director of Action Now Institute in 2010 and continues to work with community partners, parents, and schools leaders in order to find solutions to many community issues and uplift the voices of concerned community members in order to achieve change. Susan has almost two decades of experience in higher education instruction, student services and student affairs. In her role as the ANI-GYO Coordinator, she manages the cohort’s day-to-day operations, supporting the candidates academically, socially and emotionally. She is the primary ANI-GYO recruitment contact, and maintains the cohort database, compiling and analyzing the data within. Additionally, she assists with grant application preparation, implementing community-based educational initiatives and developing the organization’s educational strategic plan. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and received a law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.
Hueron Wilks , Education Organizer
Hueron has seven years of experience in as a community organizer on the South and West sides of Chicago. As an organizer, he has worked on campaigns to raise the minimum wage, stop school closings, and end predatory lending and unlawful foreclosures. He believes that quality public education is a human right, and loves empowering parents, children, teachers , community residents and clergyman to stand up and fight for education justice.
Julie works closely with the Executive Director to develop a sustainable financial plan for the organization and is responsible for the overall management and direction of the development department. Serves as a key senior leader in the organization and supports the Executive Director to create the strategies and infrastructure necessary to fulfill the agency’s potential for significant organizational and revenue growth. Julie is a graduate of Spertus Institute where she earned her Masters of Science in Nonprofit Management (MSNM). Prior to joining Action Now Institute, Julie was an integral part of the Development department at one of the oldest child welfare agencies in Illinois.
Aileen Kelleher, Communications Director
Aileen is the Communications Director for Action Now Institute where she uses innovative media strategies to spotlight ANI programs, events and initiatives. She runs a variety of leadership trainings for community members and uses social media to engage and inform Illinois residents about relevant policies, issues and resources.
