THE FORECLOSURE CRISIS
- Nearly one in seven mortgages is delinquent or in foreclosure
- In the first quarter of 2011, there were almost 5,000 new foreclosure filings in the City of Chicago
- Vacant properties are devastating for the City of Chicago – they weaken the tax base and drive up government costs as municipalities bear the burden of securing and maintaining them.
Circuit Court of Cook County Foreclosure Mediation Program
Many families are unaware there are opportunities to save their home — they shouldn’t abandon it! Action Now Institute is working with the Circuit Court of Cook County Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program with a generous grant from the Chicago Community Trust to conduct door-to-door outreach in Chicago and South Suburban neighborhoods. The purpose of our outreach is to inform homeowners about foreclosure prevention services, such as housing counseling and legal aid, which are available to Cook County residents facing foreclosure.
